Castor Oil Packs

By Lisa Doran N.D, Posted June 2007

For milenia, people around the world have experimented with herbs, fasting and other techniques to accelerate the removal of toxins from the body. By eliminating harmful material, detoxification therapies boost the immune system, improve digestion, eliminate the cause of many chromic conditions and stimulate good health, energy, optimism, mobility and stamina.

Castor oil has been shown to increase circulation and promote elimination and healing of tissues and organs underneath the skin. It is particularly effective in being absorbed into lymph circulation which can improve digestion, immune function, and reduce swelling in injured joints and extremities. It has also been specifically used in cases of menstrual irregularities, uterine fibroid cysts, and ovarian cysts.

Materials needed:

Castor oil warmed in a pot on the stove
Old cotton terry face cloth or flannel square
Heating pad, with a low setting
Plastic bag large enough to cover the flannel cloth (plastic bags are O.K.)

Soak the face cloth in the warmed castor oil and apply to abdomen (please be careful, castor oil can get very hot fast, test the cloth on the inside of your arm for temperature first) place on the right side just below the rib cage. Cover completely with a plastic bag and towel and finally the heating pad set on low. CAUTION: Castor oil stains terribly! Rest for 1 hr with this in place. Please be careful not to fall asleep with the heating pad on - the heat from the oil may burn you when you are unconcious.

Use this time that you are resting as an opportunity to focus inward and do some introspective thinking. Perhaps even do a meditation tape. There are many wonderful meditation tapes you can listen to. Dr. Bernie Segal has a wonderful tape called "Meditation for Peace of Mind" that is approximately 20 minutes in length and is available through any bookstore.

After removal, cleanse the area with warm water, if desired
Store the pack in a covered container in the refrigerator to reuse
